Man of the Year Awards

Ladies, try not to get too jealous when you read today's post. I was encouraged by reading a post on SpeakingThruMe to examine what I say about others on my blog. I try to be very positive in general when speaking about my husband, Judd. But sometimes a funny anecdote, like setting things on fire, if I'm not careful, can turn into bashing or condescending. (Although Judd loved that particular post)

I got to thinking, "How can I bless my husband through this blog, and quiet his fears that I am venting about him?" Bloggers get awards all the time, but what about the spouses who sit waiting for said blogger to come cuddle on the couch?

So here it is: the Man of the Year Award! Every husband does something worthy to be praised, so let me start by showing you the HUGE playset he lovingly built for our three Princess Monkeys! It still needs some railings and grass, since we just built our house, but just look at this thing!

Now, you may think Judd bought one of those kits from Lowe's, and simply followed directions to assemble it. Yeah, right, since when do men read directions? He designed the darn thing himself!! In true Judd frugality, he paid 1/3 of the price of the biggest kit, too! In all honesty, I was a little worried when he said he wasn't using a blueprint. Boy was I wrong, it turned out great.

Of course, I shouldn't have expected less. This is the man who built an entire climbing wall in our last house's basement! He even made the holds with his friend, Matt. And yes, he disassembled it and brought it to the new house. I have no doubt it will find a home in our new basement soon.

Not only did he build this playset, he did it while being alone with the kids almost all weekend. I had a million things to do last weekend. While I would have usually said no to some, I loved all these activities, and asked him if he could just take over the kids for the weekend. He selflessly said yes, so after working hard doing landscaping all week, he played super-dad!

All this building and kid duty may sound trivial to some of you, but it is just an example of who he is as a man. Selfless, creative, handy, fun, daddy, husband, love of my life.

If you are curious about how we met and married, and more ways he is such a blessing to me, read this post.

Now it's your turn! Write a post about why your husband deserves the Man of the Year Award. Copy and paste the code below for the button, then leave your link to the specific post.

Male readers, may I suggest getting your wife to guest blog on your site, or as Ben may be tempted to do, write a hilarious fake post about great it is to be married to you!

I'll be sure to get by to read about your wonderful husbands. Here is the code for the button:

Your husband sounds like a really great guy! He did a fantastic job on that play structure, too!

Very sweet post! It's nice to see a wife honoring her husband in such a way. You are both obviously blessed.

Bravo I say to you! It is so uplifting to hear women commending the men in their life for all they are. I am blessed with a husband who is loving and so precious to myself and our girls. He loves the Lord and tries so hard for us on a daily basis. I need to remember to simply say thank you and I am proud of the man you are!!!!

Okay - I joined you - thanks for inspiring us to do so. You are right that they are insecure about our blogging...whenever my husband knows I am not pleased with something, he will say - You are not going to blog about this are you? I would never but they are insecure, aren't they? Thanks for encouraging us to lift them up!

Great swing set!! He did a great job!! We celebrated our 10 year anniversary and were looking at old photo albums. We came across a picture of a storage building he and his cousin built, at our former home, and I didn't realize I forgot to take a finished project pic. :) I told him, oo this would have been good blogging material if it were recent! He laughed! :)
Great post!

Sarah, Judd is great and all but my Ben is amazing.

Not only is he the sexiest man alive, he never complains when I tell him to take out the trash!

And his intelligence is overwhelming! He was going to go for his double Phd in brain surgery and rocket science, but decided to use his intelligence to dedicate himself to finding the cure for toenail fungus instead. It's not glamorous work, but his heart breaks when he sees how so many suffer with this horrible disease.

He is also the best father my kids have ever had. He plays with them and teaches them about hard work. In fact, right now he is in the back yard teaching our 1 year old son how to mow the grass and start the weed eater. He is so patient with Owen as he tries to push the mower through the ditch! "Push, boy! Push! You can do it!"

But, that's my Ben. Always thinking of others before himself.

Hmmm... This comment sounds suspicious!

Let me know if he finds a cure for toenail fungus, Heather

Do you rent Judd out??? We priced out a swing set like that and I almost passed out from the prices. I asked my husband to build one...I am patiently waiting.

I was blessed w/ a man far, far, from my expectations. When I 1st met him I thought he was nothing I was looking for. Unfortunately I was looking at the exterior image and location. What God showed me quickly is his heart and that he is EVERYTHING I prayed for in a mate. He is so gentle and loving. He goes way beyond the call to make sure people's needs are met. I love him dearly. Last night as we laid in bed he lovingly leaned over and said "Jaime is Special because...." and named off several things like, my eyes are beautiful, or I make him laugh, or because I'm ticklish and he likes to tickle. Just little things. It was SO SO sweet!

I am glad you came up with this idea. My hubby made me a bit mad yesterday and this made me focus on the good stuff and forget all about that.

I am totally impressed with the swing set your hubby made by the way!

BTW, Judd says all his friends from college are probably laughing their butts off when they see this type of stuff.

Judd's great and all...sure he can build a swing set but you should see my hubby! He is the bomb and he doesn't talk nearly as much as Judd does :)!
