Adventures at the Car Wash!

When Spring comes, we think about cleaning our homes top to bottom, but do we think about those shiny, colored boxes we ride around in for half our lives? Spring cleaning the car definitely Works for Me!

We had a nice little foray to the car wash the other day in between my daughters’ dance classes. It turned into quite an adventure! You see, it’s pretty cold here in the winter, and my motivation for cleaning out the car escapes faster than the heat from our garage! Throw in busy meals and snacks in the van (and millions of toys smuggled in the back seat), and you have quite a job come spring!

I started with emptying out the junk (a nice way to put it) from the car. Actually, these are just the non-trash items! I felt like I was cleaning out a clown car, the stuff just kept coming!

I kept looking around to make sure someone wouldn’t kick me out for violating this sign. Who carries around household trash in their car, right? Well, suffice it to say that my car IS a household sometimes! And being without my usual car-cleaning method, there was a LOT of trash!

Armed with my Super-Vacuum sabre, I confronted the beast!

My faithful helper provided tactical support for the crumb zone in the back seat!

I vacuumed high…

I vacuumed low… (Dear EA SPORTS Active: I obviously need you NOW!!! Halp!)

And we finally had a clean car. As I turned the key, just in time to make it back to dance class, I heard the dreaded click. Apparently, leaving the doors open while I cleaned, combined with the kids leaving the door open ALL NIGHT the night before, had caused the battery to go dead! Luckily, I had one of these babies stashed under the Stow-and-Go-Seats!

After calling my husband to find out how to use it, I jumped the car and we were only a little late for dance class! I’m telling you, everyone should have one of these handy car-jumpers!

What do your car cleaning adventures look like?

  1. Way to put on your Grrrr face and fight that dirty van. LOL!

Cleaning my car always involves tossing out a dozen coffee cups courtesy of my husband and finding at least one really gross sippy cup compliments of Meechi.

  5. Coma Girl: It’s only that I’m “Clara Kent” Most days spilling coffee on my shirt and stepping on fast food bags! I pulled off one day as supermom, though! Woo hoo! I even danced for two hours that night 😉

  6. Katie, I’d like to say that my car would be clean if I didn’t have kids, but I’m not fooling myself! lol!

  7. And it’s true! I was having visions of me blowing up the car right there at the car wash! If anyone would do it, it’s me!

Never thought about it! My darling hubby bought me a new car last fall and it really does need a good vacuuming. Thanks for the inspiration.

  11. My most recent method of spring cleaning the van involved having a wreck and taking the van to the body shop. I don’t know if they do this all the time or if it was because they kept it two days longer than they’d told me, but they totally detailed my van. As in, they had to have removed seats and everything because they found one of those microscopic Nintendo DS games that had been missing for over a year..and I’ve vacuumed in there since then. Several times.

Unfortunately, while it was the best detail cleaning job my van’s ever gotten, I don’t recommend it. It was expensive and I’m seriously betting your insurance company would drop you after a time or two of the “have a wreck, take it to the body shop” option.

On another note, however, I like that little “jump start the battery” thingy you’ve got there. I may have to get one of those.

I seriously need to get a car-jumper thingy…our van dies after 15 minutes of a dome light being left on!

  15. I cleaned my car out this weekend too. It was in desperate need of it. To help with the trash though I try to empty it out while I’m pumping gas. There are always trash cans right there and it gives me something to do while I’m waiting for the tank to fill.
