Autumn Birthday Bash and Pumpkin Carving Tips!

We had a blast at Little Pea’s Fall-themed Birthday Party. I had planned it to be outside, but of course the temperatures picked this weekend to plummet! So we moved it into our unfinished basement playroom.

We had

  • pumpkin carving demonstration by an art teacher friend.
  • pumpkin painting
  • leaf rubbings, and other crafts
  • Of course, they donned their jackets for an energetic time on the backyard playset!

Here are some tips I picked up for carving a great pumpkin:

  • Draw your design on the pumpkin freehand, or from printed line-art. You can attach the paper to the pumpkin and cut the lines with an exacto knife.
  • Decide which parts are going to be totally cut out, and which parts will have the skin peeled. Peeling just the skin has a glowing effect.
  • Cut out the holes first, then peel the skin with a vegetable peeler.
  • Finish by painting some of the parts that weren’t peeled or cut.

And last, but not least: The Pictures!

  1. Sounds like fun! Fall activities are the best. It really did get cold this weekend though! Hopefully we still get to enjoy some warmish fall days before the cold really sets in.

  2. Looks like you all had a wonderful time!

I do wish you’d send some of your plummeting temps our way! Our days have been in the 90’s again . . .

I love your imbedded slide show! Great job.

  4. It looks like you had a great time all around. I also wanted to let you know I got the book. Thanks so much for running the contest. I have enjoyed reading it so far. Blessings.

  5. Coma Girl says:

That’s amazing! Looks like a great party. Happy Birthday little pea!!

  6. That Dora design looks a little too difficult for me. I usually do the standard triangle eyes and crooked smile. 🙂

  7. What cute pictures! Your children are darling!
