Disney Social Media Moms, Day 1

If you spend any time on Twitter, you can’t help but hear about the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. (#disneysmmoms) There are 140 Bloggers and Social Media folks registered for this conference, excited about hearing from some giants in the fied, such as Guy Kawasaki, Chris Brogan, and Maxine Clark (Build-a-Bear).

We (“we,” meaning Judd.  I offered repeatedly to drive, but for some reason, he wanted to!) drove for 12 hours Tuesday and got to our hotel at 2AM Wednesday morning.  We got over to Disney this morning and spent all day at the Magic Kingdom.  This is our first time to Disney as a family, and my first time here since I was about 13.  It truly is a MAGICAL place!

I know there is some confusion about the type of event we are having at Disney Social Media Moms Conference.  So here are some quick (very transparent) facts:

  • DisneySMMoms is a conference (not a junket) with educational sessions with the greats in social media. I’m making it a goal not to stalk Chris Brogan, but I really want to run up and hug him as if we are old friends. (he has tweeted me a few times ya know- we go WAY back! He he…)
  • DisneySMMoms is presented by Walt Disney World, 5 Minutes for Mom, MomSelect, Resourceful Mommy Media, and Mom Bloggers Club
  • Attendees paid a conference fee, which includes family park pass, lodging, conference attendance, special events, and a media pass.  Travel expenses were also paid by the attendees.
  • All opinions I share on my blog and other social media sites are my own, and I am not compensated in any way for posting about Disney.

While I can’t begin to put into coherent words the events of the day, I did manage to put together this very rough video of the Magic Kingdom today! Really, I haven’t even watched the whole thing yet.  I’ll cut it  together better when I get the time. (in other words, “Don’t hold your breath.”)

It was crazy trying to prepare for this trip at the same time as Blissdom, but such a blessing to be here. I wish we had brought our heavy coats, though, ’cause it’s COLD!

  2. Have a great time! How fun for your family. I used to downplay the idea of getting a So Cal pass to Disneyland here, and we finally got passes this past year in August, and we love it! We go 2-3 times a month and are still going strong. The shows, the rides, the parades – it really is amazing how excellent they are, and they know how to move people and run things so efficiently. If only our government could be run half as well as Dland and Dworld. Wish we could be there with you all!
