As we're on Do Online Printable Coupons Double or Triple? | Real Life | An NC Mom Blog, You can actually get coupons from magazines and newspaper advertisements. Pay close attention the to the expiration dates on them too. For those who have access to the web go to the web-sites for the items you use. Plenty of of them offer coupons that they'll mail to you or that you can print at household. If these websites provide an opt in list for you to obtain promotions and coupons by e-mail then take advantage of it.

Where I live the stores generally doubled any coupons that did not have a bar code that started with a "5" (generally the ones handed out at the store). But recently they have started scrutinizing each and every coupon and manually overriding the doubling of any coupon with this printed on it. Not only does this greatly impact my savings, but makes using the coupons a big hassle as I tend to have LOTS and having the cashier reading all the fine print every one is a giant pain. I am actually getting to the point of purchasing most of my foods directly from farms and coops and just not shopping at traditional grocery stores any more. I know a lot of people doing the same thing. Hopefully our business will be missed and things will improve in the future!

Ginger! I never got a notification of this comment, I'm so sorry I haven't responded!

The Grocery Game is basically a list generator. They match up store sales with coupons, and tell you what the best deals are. Then, you choose the items you want to print out for your list. It's printed in the order of the store aisles, and makes it SO easy to coupon effectively. There are free services, like couponmom.com, but The Grocery Game is the best for me.

Here is a complete overview of how I do it: http://www.reallifeblog.net/how-i-save-50-on-my-groceries-with-the-grocery-game/

It depends on the store.

I think it depends if they have different UPC codes.

I believe that if a coupons barcode begins with the number 5 it will double, the blinkies you find in the store from smart source say do not double and WILL not at all because they begin with the number 4 (i think that is the number) however at my store if the cashier sees the DND then they can manually hit a key on register that will not allow the doubling. Great post!

I'm so glad it worked out for you, Sarah!
Sarah I'm so glad it worked out for you!! YOU are the rock star my friend!

Cindy- I don't think manufacturer's "discourage" it per se, at least not to the consumer. I think the DoNotDouble "warning" is intended for retailers. Manufacturers simply haven't budgeted the "double" into their marketing budget.

If you have an iPhone there is a great app (designed by a fellow Lawrencian and neighbor, Jason Boehe) called Grocery IQ. This is owned by coupons.com and you can now print coupons freon your iPhone to an HP Printer AND load coupons.com coupons to your shopper card (if you are lucky enough to have a participating store).

Woohoo! Good for you. That is some serious savings! My local Kroger only doubles up to 50 cents, but still very worth it. Way to be a smart shopper.

I've never had a system refuse my coupon. The manufacturer can't tell the stores what to do, so the stores (most, not all) ignore that warning. When a store doubles a coupon, that comes from their own pockets. It doesn't affect the manufacturer one way or the other.

I've always wondered why manufacturers want to try to discourage it. It can't possibly be a bad thing to get more of their product sold at no extra cost to them! My only guess is that they don't like the unfair competition between the stores that double and the ones that don't. Not likely, but I can't come up with any other reason.
