Walk…(Tap Tap Tap) with the Animals Talk…(Tap Tap Tap) With the Animals

A while back, I went on a school trip to a place called “Lazy 5 Ranch” near Charlotte, NC.   It’s kind of like a zoo, except you get to drive through the animal areas, and feed them!  It was so incredible to be so close to the animals!

The most obnoxious animals were the ostriches, who would actually stick their necks all the way in the car to get the food!  Little Pea was with me, and was really freaked out by this!  Of course, before I rolled the window up, I got some really cool pictures!

The most surreal experience was staring at a zebra literally 6 inches from the car!

Aside from how much I love going on school field trips with the kids, the number 2 most awesome thing about going to the ranch was getting to try out my new camera!  I am still learning how use it, but check out my “wild safari” shots!!

Have you ever been to one of these ranch-type places? And what is the coolest field trip you took with your child’s school (or your homeschool children)?

Fun times you all had. M is still talking about the ostriches sticking their head in the car. I just adore our camera… takes awesome shots!

Oooh, I want to go to Lazy 5 Ranch! Topher was supposed to go on a field trip last year but it coincided with a MOPS speaking engagement I had, so we took the kids with us and did something educational there.

A few weeks ago I went with the first grade to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden. It was beautiful, and I got some great pictures and had fun at the same time!

  3. Sarah, Graham and I went to Lazy Five Ranch on a field trip this past May. We rode in the wagons instead of the car. We saw several cars and I was not liking the way they were sticking their heads in the windows so I was glad we rode the wagons!! I got some great pictures and Graham really liked the animals! Although, he was not super crazy about feeding them from his hands! We had several extra friendly animals that tried and succended getting onto our wagon! Those pictures of Graham’s face were priceless!
Victoria also went to Lazy Five in 1st grade and loved it! She still says it was her favorite field trip. I loved the Washington trip in 5th grade with Danny. I am looking forward to another one this year with Victoria!

Thanks so much for this post. Just a few weeks after reading about your adventure, I found myself and my family headed to NC with my husband on business. I insisted, much to my husband’s dismay, that we take the 2 hour detour to go to the Lazy 5 Ranch. It was well worth it!!! They even had a baby zebra when we were there. It turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Thanks again for sharing!
