No, Not "Mathletes", "Mathetes"

I am so honored to receive the Mathetes Award from Donetta at A Life Uncommon and Michelle at In The Life of a Child. When I first saw it in their posts, I thought it said Mathletes, you know, the math club. I was never a member of the Mathletes, and if I were I probably wouldn’t admit it.
This award has nothing to do with math. (if it did, I wouldn’t be getting it) It is probably the most important award I have received, because it is about Christian discipleship. In my life nothing else really matters except Christ. Here is the introduction from the originator:
Mathetes is the Greek word for disciple, and the role of the disciple (per the Great Commission) it to make more disciples. I’d like to take the opportunity to award five other bloggers with this award and badge for acting in the role of a disciple of Christ. These five all share the message in their own creative ways, and I admire them all for what they do.In the spirit of this award, the rules are simple. Winners of this award must pick five other “disciples” to pass it on to. As you pass it on, I just ask that you mention and provide links for (1)this post as the originator of the award (Dan King of management by God), (2) the person that awarded it to you, and then (3) name and sites of the five that you believe are fulfilling the role of a disciple of Christ.
I have been amazed by how much I have grown in the Lord through reading and discussion in the blogosphere, so it will be hard to choose just five. But here are the first blogs that come to mind when I think of discipleship.
Live. Awake, written by my friends Ben and Heather. Ben is a pastor, and shares a unique wisdom from the Scripture, as well as hilarious parody at times. This is my favorite one, Certified Marriage Advice. Heather is one of the most awesome women I know. (I’ve actually known her since high school) Since she joined the blog, she has added just enough of the woman’s touch. She posts recipes, fun stories from her childhood with 5 siblings, thoughtful questions that make for a good discussion. Both of them put Jesus first in their lives and their blog.
Musings of a Housewife, written by dcrmom. Her Sunday Scripture is particularly neat, because she doesn’t comment on these posts. She just lets God’s word speak for itself. It’s always just what I need to hear. Aside from Scripture Sunday, she writes on a variety of topics with a great sense of humor, letting others know that Christians are regular people, too. We just live our lives committed to Jesus.
Musings from Mexico, written by my friend Jan. She and her husband are missionaries in Mexico, and are fascinating people. Jan is raising awareness about Mexico missions with Mexico Mondays . She doesn’t post only a romanticized version of ministry, but shares joys and challenges, giving glory to God, asking for prayer when needed. If you want to get involved in missions, but can’t go, visit her blog and pray for them and their Bible School.
Everyday Mommy, written by Jules is home to the Moms for Modesty movement. You may have noticed the button on my sidebar, their mission statement is:
- As a Mom for Modesty I believe in common-sense modesty for girls and young women.
- I believe in refraining from sexualizing our girls and young women.
- I believe that it is unwise and unfair to taunt boys and young men by permitting my daughter(s) to dress in an immodest manner.
- I believe that true beauty comes from within and I strive to teach my daughter(s) this truth.
- I will loyally shop at retailers that provide girls’ and young womens clothing that is modest, affordable and stylish.
She also posts a Bible Study on her blog. Everyday Mommy is also an incredible blog designer, and I can’t wait till she has time to do one for me! Being excellent at whatever we do is such a testimony to the world. Even as talented as this woman is, she gives all the credit to God. with her Rag Blog post. I’m a rag blog, too, are you?

Why, thank you! What an honor.

A wonderful article. In my life, I have never seen a man be so selfless in helping others around him to get along and get working.
