Oh, Deer!

I love to see the deer in my neighborhood frolicking in the high grass. Often when I drive into the neighborhood in the evening, I have to stop and gaze. We have imaginary conversations, and I tell them how cute they are, before they leap off to their homes.

HOWEVER! I don’t love it when I find that they have mowed (or is it mown?) down all the green beans in my garden in one night!

Help! I don’t want to hurt the little darlings (except in the fall, when they make a really great chili) But how do I keep them out of my garden, short of a fence? We don’t have the money for that right now.

Anybody have any suggestions?

.

  1. No suggestions here, but I’ll be checking back to see if anyone else has ideas…we don’t have deer, but the rabbits have been a HUGE problem for us this year!
Sorry! I hope you get some good responses!!!!

  4. i know this is weird, but if you line the perimeter of your garden with human hair, it might keep them out.

my mom is a barber, and a lot of the old-school farmers would stop by her shop and pick up a bag of hair.

    gross, i know.
but better than green-beans with teeth marks.

There is a recipe for a natural spray that you can use, but I can’t find it right now! I know that it included things like raw egg, tobasco, and a few other ingredients. Supposedly, you only have to spray it once a week right on your flowers, etc.

If I find the info, I’ll let you know – otherwise try searching for something like that.

I would love to be able to see deer in my yard! Knowing me, I would grow a patch of beans just for them! hee hee
