I posted about OCC on Sunday before I knew about this contest. I just found out about this on Facebook today. I added your Blogger Care button to my post.

Our family has been involved in this project for years now. Two years ago, I wrote a story called "Pencil with a Purpose" (http://bornagainandblessed.blogspot.com/2009/11/pencil-with-purpose.html)
to get people interested in the project. It's wonderful to see many bloggers now promoting OCC!

Hi! My name is Karen, and I found your blog via Amanda's blog (oh Amanda). I just posted a long comment over there about my history with OCC, which is an awesome ministry. I love it, and it has changed my life. I filled my first box in 1998 and have filled boxes every year since. Since that first box, I have had the opportunity to distribute boxes in Kosovo (when I was a reporter for a newspaper in Tennessee) and other places after I ended up working for Samaritan's Purse and BGEA. I now do a little volunteer work with the OCC office here in Atlanta, but we continue to fill our boxes each year. Our play room is currently a mess of shoe boxes, wrapping paper and goodies we've collected all year. :o) This outreach is the real deal! I love this blogging idea--thanks so much for doing this.

This is the first year that I've been involved with OCC, my church has been doing it for 3 years now. This year I felt like I needed to get involved, so I asked to be in charge. Historically I'm more of a check writer than a asker of money, so I kind of felt out of my comfort zone. As a way to raiser money we decided to have a yard sale, a bunch of members donated their items, and the clothes we decided would be sold for $7 per grocery bag full. In any event, the saturday before the yard sale I said to a friend that I was worried that we didn't have enough stuff. Just a random comment, not meant for anything, so I publish a letter to the editor of our local paper, just as free advertisement to get the word out. It was published on a Wednesday morning, and later that morning our pastor received a phone call from a lady who wanted to donate some items. So my pastor called and explained to me about this woman who had some things to donate, and he gave me her phone number. So I called her and arranged to pick up her items that evening, she said she had a bunch of things in her garage. So, as we get ready to go over my gut tells me that I'd better take my car as well as my husband in his truck. So, we get to her home, to pick up her generous donation. BOY was I glad I took my car too, as it was, we had to go back with my husbands truck for a 3rd load! She literally donated a garage full of items!!! Because of her generosity, we managed to raise $580 for OCC. And if you think sometimes that a comment is just a comment, remember this story, because God was really listening to me that day, and really showed me how he works, even when you're not looking! This mission has not only made me realize that I am able to move outside of my comfort zone, and it has helped me build a stronger and more meaningful relationship with some of my church family.

Hi. I read about your outreach on Kimba's site. My post is from last year so it may not be exactly what you wanted, but I wanted to come support your cause. Keep up the good work!

A few years back, a friend introduced me to OCC. What a great cause! My girls and I love OCC!

We stock pile unopened happy meal toys to fill our shoe boxes. I also take the girls to dollar store to pick some other items for their boxes. Last year, I paid on-line and we received an e-mail once the box had been delivered. My girls loved looking at the map of the world pin-pointing which country their box landed and seeing the photos of the children holding their boxes.

I also lead a moms group and every year, we host a shoe box collection for OCC.

I posted just a minute ago! I actually blogged about OCC in July! lol

OCC is a wonderful program that I've been doing for about 10 years now I guess (a long time anyway). I love to pack these boxes and get so much fulfillment from knowing that I am providing some Christian love to someone I don't know. I've pledged to do 6 boxes this year (at a minimum) and I am also pledging to do something from the catalog (I want to do the chicks!)

Thanks so much for doing this!!!
