Photo Week, Day One: Living Water

I’ve had tons of pictures I’ve wanted to post, but I needed a direction for the theme. So I made a list of all the pictures I wanted to share, and asked God to give me a message to go with each group. Once again, He was faithful, so I’ll be posting them all week.

We went to a nearby river to swim, and had the best time! (After I got over my squeemishness at swimming with fish right next to me. I grew up in the yuppie suburbs, you know!) There’s something exhilarating about being in the midst God’s creation. Swimming in a pool is great, but swimming in a river that God created for us is really something special.

Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost. Is 55:1

The best thing about going to this river is that it is free. If we don’t have money to pay for the refreshment of the pool, we can always come here. So it is with the salvation Jesus offers. It doesn’t cost money, you don’t have to be good enough. He has already accomplished it, all you have to do is accept it, and turn from yourself. Wade in to His grace, and feel the refreshment of a real relationship with God.

Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. Jn 7:38

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd;
he will lead them to springs of living water.
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Rev 7:17

I’ve heard it said that in Biblical times, “living water” was used to describe moving water, such as in a stream or river. This water was clear and vibrant, not given to contamination like a stagnant pool would be. Of course, figuratively, this “living water” refers to the Holy Spirit, whom God has sent to continually refresh our spirits, and change us to be more like Jesus. The river water flows over the rocks, making them smooth, and changing them, just as the Holy Spirit does for us. Have you ever swum in a man-made lake? The gunk on the bottom, and murky water are not very fun to swim in! But in comparison, the clear, flowing water of the river is amazing!

You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;

the mountains and hills
will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
will clap their hands. Is 55:12

  4. Just think. Those water molecules will float past your family all the way to the ocean. Then they’ll evaporate into the sky and come right back to the river again. Our Creator’s life cycles are amazing. Thanks for mentioning the fish, although I’d like to see a picture of them too.
