Playground Chic: Does it Matter to You?

Do you think about what you’re wearing to the park with the kids, or in other situations when you’ll see other moms? Explore the topic with me in this video and see why I am certainly NOT playground chic on this day!

You’re so cute. I used to care but notsomuch anymore. And I agree – it IS liberating. However, I’ve gotten so lax about my appearance when dropping the kids at school and running out to the store that I’m trying to make it more of a priority these days to slap on some makeup and look presentable. In other words, I think it’s a slippery slope. Once you begin to feel comfortable that way, you will find yourself letting yourself go more and more. I think I can understand why some moms totally let themselves go at some point. I’m on my way back up the slope at the moment. Which reminds me. I need to go upstairs and make myself decent b/c I have to take my daughter to preschool in 30. 🙂

  2. You go girl! The best part – you are playing right along with your kids! You are a GREAT mom! Belated Happy Mother’s Day to a Mom who cares!

    Create a Great Day!

  3. Colleen says:

hmm I cant seem to get it to play..probably something with my security software.

Sometimes I think about it…although I have to admit that there are days I get my son on the bus(in my driveway)and I am in my pj pants still.

I care, but dont care…I dont wear makeup that often…but definitly feel better about myself when I show I do care.

  4. Pink Monkey says:

Okay, honestly, you look great just the way you are! I don’t usually make a big fuss about make-up when I leave the house because I’ve gotten into the routine of putting on make-up before I even leave my bedroom in the mornings. You’re so brave to video record yourself. This is with the FlipVideo, right? I’m still debating if I should get one or not.

    Have a great day!

  5. I think it is crazy, but yes many moms do get all dressed up and do their makeup just to take the kids to play! I am SO not that kind of mom. I will admit that there are times I feel like a bit of a slob compared to the other moms on the playground. I just don’t see the point in getting all “fancied up” for the playground or to drop my son at preschool. I think it is getting worse and worse though with moms feeling the need to look great no matter where they go. There is a lot of pressure to be that perfect looking mom, when really the perfect mom is the one in sweats, with mud on her bottom playing with her kids!

Listen, I am the queen of um, ‘relaxed wear’. I actually had to stop because it was just getting totally out of control.
I don’t wear make-up and I don’t really make a big deal out of my hair, but I try to differentiate between ‘cleaning up the basement’ clothes and ‘running to the grocery store’ clothes.
    Great video!

  7. You are too cute. The only thing that matters is that when you fall in the mud, you laugh and don’t let it ruin the trip to the park! Besides, it would be a bummer to get your better clothes all sweaty while you’re having fun with the kiddos! 🙂

  8. Jen @ One Moms World says:

Hehe… I’m so glad I’m not the only one that stuff happens too. You know I am so relaxed on the make-up at the parks and when I go get Madisyn. I should probably do better, but the think nah.. It’s just Jen LOL :).

    Cute video!!!

  9. Vintagesquirrel says:

I usually dress down on a regular basis and wear makeup only on special occasions. I think it’s better to go ‘natural’ most of the time, so that on the occasions that you do decide to dress up and wear makeup, people are like: “Woohoo, girl! Look at you. You look great.” (If you’re looking your best all the time, you’ll never get that reaction.)

  10. says:

I don’t care. Only if I were specifically meeting my friends would I put a wee bit of makeup on, just to look alive, but if I’m there alone..I don’t care what strangers would see.

  11. Loved the video, you look like such a fun mom. I try to be myself and have fun doing what I’m doing and not to worry about what others have to say.

  12. Coma Girl says:

LOL. I’m not sure if the other moms at the park said to themselves “look at the woman with no make-up on and dirt on her back”

Or they said “look at the crazy lady talking to the video camera”
