RL Review: Custom Choice Gluten Free Cereal

I’ve been learning a lot about the gluten-free diet these days. Several of my friends or their children follow the gluten-free diet for a variety of reasons. So I was intrigued when I was contacted by Hajo, from Custom Choice Cereal to try their custom made cereal!

The concept of this North Carolina company is really neat! You create your own custom cereal, consisting of a gluten free base, then add dried fruit, seeds or nuts of your choice.
Do you have a child that doesn’t like nuts? Leave them out of your mix? Love dried apples? Put some in! You can choose your cereal components right on the website, order and pay right there. It is created for you, and shipped out right away.

You can even name your own mix! I named mine “(Real) Life” Cereal. Get it? {snort snort} So if you have a gluten-free child who always misses out on what the other kids get, she can have her own cereal, named after her! Isn’t that cool? Mine had these components:

I chose Cinnamon Granola for the base, then I added pumpkin seeds and dried apples.

We got the cereal as we were leaving the house, and happened to check the mail. I opened it right away and my first impression was the freshest smell of cinnamon and dried fruit! The taste was so vivid and the only word I can really use to describe it is fresh! I loved this cereal.

I have to be honest, at first the price point kind of threw me. The bases are $4.49 to $4.99 for a 12-oz bag. So I called some friends who buy gluten free, and they shared that it is a comparable price for gluten-free and organic cereals. For example, Nature’s Path Organic cereal is $4.79 for a 10.6 oz box. Pretty comparable, I’d say.

  1. Printing Postcards says:

I checked their website and I was impressed. While creating your own mix you get to see the nutrition facts changing every time you’ll add an ingredient. Personally this is a good way of promoting eating and living healthy in your family, especially to the kids.

  2. Thanks for sharing Sarah I will definitely give this a try and order a few bags of cereal.
