Packing Simple Gifts.
Bringing a message to the “forgotten” of the world.
“You are loved by God, and his people.”
“God hears your heart.”
“He came for you.”
The message for our children is equally poignant.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. James 1:22-25
We are especially enthusiastic about Operation Christmas Child, not only because the international headquarters is in my little town, but because I know so many of the people who work to bring gifts to needy children around the world- those that work behind the scenes, and those who actually GO to the ends of the earth! They look in the children’s eyes, and see the results when they receive exactly what they’ve asked for or needed.
So this year, I’m excited to be a part of the Operation Christmas Child Blogger team! My kids love to pack shoeboxes every year, and imagine the kids that receive them on the other side. And this year, we have an opportunity to SHARE our packing process with the world on OCC’s Shoe Tube! Yes, you heard right. It’s “You Tube” for Shoeboxes! And it’s going to be fun!
Here’s how to paticipate:
- Go to Shoe Tube (www.occshoetube.com) and read the Introduction and Guidelines
- Make ANY kind of video you want about Operation Christmas Child and your family! You can do it in front of your webcam, or take a pocket video camera on your shopping trip, make a music video, or anything else you dream up.
- Then upload the video at ShoeTube
ONE PERSON who uploads a video at ShoeTube will win an all-expense paid trip to distribute the boxes with OCC staff and volunteers.
Wouldn’t that be cool if a Real Life reader won the trip!!? Hurry, because we have to do it by the end of National Collection Week, November 15-22, 2010!
Here is a neat video with singer Brandon Heath packing his shoeboxes. See how casual he is? You can do this!
Leave a comment letting me know if you plan to do a video! Will you get an extra contest entry? No, but it’d be fun to encourage you!
