The Rubber Hits the Road Tonight

Well, it’s here! If you’ve been following the blog and Twitter, you know that I’m dancing in a ballet for the first time in 15 years. (and you’re probably tired of hearing about it!) Well, don’t fear, the show is this weekend! You’ll have to read about it after it’s over and probably watch a video, but then you’ll be off the hook!

The first dress rehearsal is tonight. I have done several things in the last few months that I thought I’d never be able to do.

  • Even sit in on an advanced ballet class at 35 years old, let alone be in a show.
  • Get these 35-year-old ankles back on pointe shoes. (granted, they still aren’t as strong as they need to be)
  • Learn how to make a ballet costume bodice. The only thing I’ve ever sewn are panel curtains and pillows, and a couple of quilts. (amazing what you’ll do when you have to!)

It’s been an interesting journey. About a week and a half ago, I came home in tears after I almost fainted during rehearsal. I think it was the combination of “Aunt Flo,” and my anxiety affecting my breathing, which caused me to hyperventilate. I remember thinking, “I don’t know why I ever thought I could DO this!” That seems to be a theme for me. I spend half of my life saying, “How did I get myself into this, and what am I doing here?” I guess that’s the life of an entrepreneur- always doing the next big idea!

One of the dances I have to do is very aerobically demanding, and I’m hoping the adrenalin takes over when I get up there on stage, because I struggle through it, honestly. If I can do that, I know I’ll be OK, as long as my brain doesn’t short circuit on the steps!

So I’ll get to see whether I really am fit enough (but I better be, ya know?) and whether I really can succeed at this adventure I’ve gotten myself into.

But I don’t want to share this just so everyone can say, “Oh, great job, Sarah!” Really, really, please stop… 🙂 {fans face} Anyway, I want to inspire you in what you’ve been wanting to do. You know there’s something! Something that you’re afraid to try, because you’re afraid you’ll fail. You’re too old, too out of shape, don’t have time, or whatever!

I’ll highlight a few of my friends who’ve done what they never thought they would:

  • Julie lost about 70 pounds, and ran 5K
  • Jenn started writing a regular column for a newspaper
  • Brooke is writing a new article – 5 days a week- on her blog, with plans for a book!
  • After birthing two girls, and getting used to pink, Diaper Diaries actually gave birth to a boy- and is loving it! (I still could not physically do that at this point, only girls for me!)

So what is it YOU want to do? Are you doing it? Do you need inspiration? What’s stopping you?
