Well, this week, I have been plagued with a common female affliction that needs no introduction. I’ll only tell you that it starts with a P, ends with an S, and has an M in the middle. Do you need another hint?
Anyway… I hopped on my Wii Fit this week, and was unpleasantly surprised to see an extra pound on my Mii! When the Wii Fit asks you why you gained weight, it really needs to have an option for PMS! Ooops, there, I said it.
So I decided to do some research on how to minimize weight gain and water retention during PMS. I’ll share a little of what I found.
According to Health A to Z:
- Eat complex carbohydrates, such as whole grain breads, pasta and cereals, fiber and protein. Cut back on sugar and fat.
- Avoid salt for the last few days before your period to reduce bloating and fluid retention.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
(I think my tortilla chips and cheese would really miss me!)
According to Ezine Articles:
Food cravings can be managed by getting adequate sleep, eating smaller and more frequent meals, limiting caffeine intake, staying well hydrated, and doing at least some exercise. Reducing salt intake in the last few days before one’s period can help minimize bloating and fluid retention. Calcium supplements may also help reduce bloating and other PMS symptoms.
So, basically we have to avoid refined carbs, drink plenty of water, and limit caffeine and salt. Exactly the opposite of my instincts when PMS rears it’s ugly head. I’m going to try to do better next time, and see if the improvement I feel offsets the lack of will-power!
However! I do have some good news! I almost got to 2000 in the 6-minute Hula Hoop! 12 more spins! It almost killed me, though. Maybe I can do it on Saturday for theCool Mom Guide to Fitness Wii Fit Olympics. The Olympics take place in the Cool Mom Guide to Fitness Forums on Saturday, Feb 28! Start training now!
AND… I thought I would never beat Julie’s Soccer Score from when she came to visit me. She is the Soccer champion, and actually has gotten a perfect score! But, I rocked the soccer balls this week and beat her!
I have found a few more Weigh-In Wednesdays that seem to be independent of each other; it seems good ideas are not always original! So I figured I’d link to all of them and try to bring everyone together! You can sign the Mr. Linky here, and then go visit the other Weigh-In-Wednesday posts at these blogs:
