What Did You Do For New Year’s Eve?

I remember when the thought of doing nothing on New Years Eve was completely foreign to me. December 31st was one night of the year you absolutely could not stay home! We had our first daughter before many of our friends had kids, so for the next few years, we would host a sleep-over party with all of our couple friends. That way, we could put her to bed and not worry about a babysitter.

Pretty soon, our friends had kids, so our little plan was thwarted. We would have a family get together at least till 9:00, and some of our friends with college-age kids would stay till midnight. Last year, we were at my moms for New Years. We just watched movies with her and my brother, but it was fun.

This year… we pretty much did nothing. (well, almost nothing; wink wink) We got some movies for the kids, and made soft serve ice cream in our new Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker. (thanks Papa and Nana!) We put them to bed late, at 10:00. Then, Judd and I made some drinks, just to be a little festive, and watched our movie. I can’t tell you what we did at midnight. (Hey, this is a G-rated blog!)

I have dreams of going to a swanky party wearing a little black dress, and ball-room dancing till midnight. Maybe someday… but right now, I’m happy in this little world called “home.”

What did you do to ring in the new year?

One day your kids will be old enough to stay out late again…we were out til 1:00a.m. with our kids last night and had a blast. We did something very different than what we normally would do. Normally we would spend New Year’s with all our “church” friends and do something (mostly just hang out). This year we planned on staying home and having family time, but a friend Johnny coached with called us and invited us over. We believed in our hearts that was how we wanted to start the New Year…doing things out of the box and being Jesus to people by being real and just having fun. The amazing thing was he very hesitantly told us when he invited us that he was dating this other person (both recently seperated from their spouses)and that they would be having a champagne toast at midnight (as if we were going to get offended). We went, had fun, met knew people and made new friends. Then I even toasted with them (and very graciously told them I’d only take a sip because anymore I’d either be under the table or worse yet on top)that one simple statement lighten the mood and may open up doors in the future.
By the way, love your blog…hate mine, but love yours!

We were with our good friends, the Drapers! We changed all the clocks and celebrated midnight with the kids and then put them to bed (our older ones were at a friend’s house) and then spent some good quality time with old friends. It was awesome! Then we celebrated it as well (wink wink, nudge nudge) and snoozed until 9 or so.

    Happy New Year!

I keep meaning to post about my own New Years Eve, but I didn’t get around to it.

It was pretty relaxed. We just had one other family over for fondue. At about 9pm, we put on party hats and yelled Happy New Year! Then we sent our guests on their merry way and started watching Season 3 of Lost.

We were in bed when the ball dropped. Lame? Probably. But like you, I’m pretty content with just staying home. :-)

We were pretty boring here! We watched a movie and broke out the sparkling grape juice around 11 and celebrated with the east coast, then off to bed!

Sheer exhaustion forced us to bed ourselves down around 11. My 4 month-old DD has decided to nurse every 3 hours around the clock since the middle of Dec., so Mummy was in no mood to party. We smooched briefly under the covers and prayed the neighborhood fireworks wouldn’t wake our 2 year-old.
